Abstract
This source is concerned with analyzing the 'planned and systematic activities that an individual is engaged in during his lifetime to further his culture,' focussing on the learning by Navajo of songs and ceremonies as instances of cultural 'tradition' (p. ix). The data are gleaned from fieldwork conducted by means of conventional, straightforward and structured interviewing. Principally the author is concerned with the learning process and relations between persons identified as 'teachers' and 'students' engaged in the transmission of ceremonial lore and procedure.
