By: Reichard, Gladys Amanda.

Abstract
This is a short discussion by a well-known authority on Navajo ceremonial life relating to the classification of natural objects. The author points out that since the Navajo regards all parts of the universe essential to well-being they have an exact and detailed classification of all plants, animals, minerals and rocks, shells and stars. The author therefore suggests various methods for arriving at an understanding of these classifications, and describes her own recent, initial efforts to study the classification of birds.
