By: Underhill, Ruth.

Abstract
This is a brief account of a disastrous peace-making attempt between the Euro-Americans and the Navajos in the mid-nineteenth century. Underhill, a specialist in the history of the Navajo Indians, describes a meeting between the Navajo, led by Sandoval and Narbonna, and the first U.S. agent for the reservation and the military commander. The meeting ended in the Euro-Americans firing on the Indians.
