New Mexico anthropologist6/7 • Published In 1943 • Pages: 3-12

By: Wyman, Leland Clifton, Bailey, Flora L..

Abstract
This is the most detailed available account of the objective behavior during a Navajo girl's puberty rite. Both the authors are well-informed authorities on Navajo ceremonials. The rite described here was sponsored by DS near Two Wells, New Mexico, and the final night began on July 2, 1942. For comparison, certain details from another performance held for AY at Mariano Pass, New Mexico, in 1940 are given, preceded by an I in parenthesis (I). Other parenthetical initials refer to specific informants or other individuals. Clan numbers are according to Gladys Reichard, SOCIAL LIFE OF THE NAVAJO INDIANS, 4: Reichard, this file.
