Abstract
This monograph deals with the geographical distribution of past and present Yurok settlements and lists of place names. Several thousand such names are listed and their origin explained. The topographical features and settlement patterns of various localities are illustrated with maps and plates. The author, however, did not confine himself solely to geography. There are also informative discussions of the Yurok language, ethnogeography, cosmology, material culture, house names and personal names, property system, and mythology. The material in this study was gathered by both the author and A. L. Kroeber on field trips to the Yurok country.
