Northern Valley Yokuts

By: Wallace, William James.

Abstract
Wallace writes an overview for the Yokuts of the northern San Joaquin Valley. Little is known about this group as they were decimated by contact with western Europeans. Much that is known about them comes from the early writings of explorers, missionaries, and other early travelers. He describes such things as their territory, environment, material culture, settlement patterns, warfare, and the history of their acculturation during the Spanish, Mexican, and American periods. Wallace also speculates about their social and political organization and religion.
