Pomo: introduction

handbook of north american indians. california8 • Published In 1978 • Pages: 274-288

By: McLendon, Sally, Oswalt, Robert Louis.

Abstract
In the first part of this article the authors review the earliest linguistic materials written on the Pomoan languages by Gibbs, Powell, Barrett, Kroeber, and others, and attempt a new classification of the languages based on a statistical analysis of 100 lexical elements, taking into consideration the phonological and grammatical features that all these languages share in common. This is followed by a brief culture summary of the Pomo, and a much more detailed analysis of Pomo synonymies and ethnography.
