Abstract
This is a comprehensive summary of the ethnography of the Chinookans of the lower Columbia River from the late eighteenth to the mid nineteenth centuries, and will serve as an excellent introduction to the other documents in this file. This work includes information on the various tribal components of the large cultural unit known as 'Chinookans', their history, subsistence patterns, forms of currency, house types, technology, clothing, transort, social and political organization, life cycle events, and ceremonies and spirit power.
