International journal of American linguistics12 (3) • Published In 1946 • Pages: 133-135

By: Flannery, Regina.

Abstract
In her ethnological investigations among the Gros Ventre at Fort Belknap Reservtion in Montana, Flannery noticed certain differences in the speech patterns used by men and women, particularly in regard to vocabulary and pronunciation. This article presents an examination of these differences, and concludes that these patterns ...'reflect the sex of the speaker rather than either the sex of the person spoken to, or the sex of the person or thing spoken of' (p. 133).
