Abstract
This document describes "The Fox Project" as envisioned by Sol Tax who sought to fuse applied and academic anthropology into a new anthropological practice that he called "action anthropology." This project represented one of several attempts to develop a "clinical science" that hoped to produce better anthropological theory as it solved pressing community problems. Foley describes in detail the various ideological elements of this approach and presents a critique of the final results.
