Annals of Iowa7 • Published In 1869 • Pages: 347-366

By: Galland, Isaac.

Abstract
This source is a miscellany of information on the Sauk and Fox, who are treated as one group. It includes the origin myths of the people as a whole; the clans; certain rituals; the [n]mish-aum[/n], or sacred pack; and of the six 'ordnances', or rules, to live by, which were handed down by Wis-uk-a, the culture hero. There are also brief descriptions by Galland himself of the [n]mish-aum[/n], medical practices, childbirth, songs, ideas about death, burial and mourning, kin terms, and some vocabulary items.
