Abstract
This document consists mainly of a listing of the various bands of the Montagnais-Naskapi, with a brief description of each, covering generally the territorial range of the bands, their type of economy, their history so far as is known, and various scattered bits of information pertaining to each band. The first section of the document deals with the histories of the various bands, and their relation to problems concerning the early history of the Labrador Eskimo, Beothuk and Iroquois. Two maps are included, one showing the approximate distribution of the Labrador Eskimo and Montagnais-Naskapi in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and the second showing the approximate present-day distribution of the same groups. A population table of the various groups is included.
