Koreans in America: a demographic analysis

korean diaspora : historical and sociological studies of korean immigration and assimilation in north americaSanta Barbara, Calif. • Published In 1977 • Pages: 205-228

By: Ryu, Jai P..

Abstract
In this article Ryu presents a demographic analysis of the Koreans in America, utilizing various 1970 census reports and other publications about the subject. The analysis is divided into five sections: growth of the Korean population in the United States; their distribution in the U.S.; age, sex, and marital status of Korean Americans; socioeconomic data on the population; and housing and household characteristics. For each of the above sections, the author tries to identify two general areas of inquiry: 'what descriptive statements can be made on the basis of available data, and how additional research and service in different areas can increase the understanding of this minority group' (pp. 207-208).
