Abstract
This document presents an account of the life and activities of the Armenians in California from the early nineteenth century to approximately the early 1930s. As a background to this study Mahakian gives a brief culture summary of Armenian history (in Turkey and Russia), describing in the process the motivation for their eventual immigration to the United States, and particularly to California. The major portion of this work consists of succinct accounts of the economic, religious, social, and intellectual life of Armenian Americans. The material is well presented in the text but is extremely dated in time perspective.
