Abstract
This work presents an excellent sociological study of Armenians in Canada, primarily in Québec, with a focus on Montreal. The volume is organized into six major chapters. Chapter one introduces the reader to Armenia and the Armenians, with specific data on their origin, language, religion, and the period of genocide in Turkey in the early twentieth century. The second chapter concentrates on the changing trend in Armenian immigration to Canada and Québec. In the third chapter Chichekian discusses the changing distributional pattern of Armenians in metropolitan Montreal, with particular emphasis on the reasons for, and the characteristics of, these residential patterns. Chapter four outlines the traits of the Armenian community's integration/assimilation pattern. The fifth chapter describes the institutional organization of the community, with chapter six providing data on some of its socio-economic and demographic characteristics.
