Abstract
This paper outlines the salient features of the Tasher Hasidic community in the Boisbriand area of Canada (about eighteen miles from Montreal). Shaffir examines the importance of the geographical isolation of the community in maintaining their religious beliefs, their attempt to achieve self-regulation and self-sufficiency, and their organization and supervision of secular studies in the schools.
