Abstract
This is a study of the value of children (VOC) and fertility based on a survey of 2305 married respondents across Turkey. Some of the findings show that social, economic, and cultural factors affect intra-family relations, which in turn, affects fertility behavior. The economic value of children decreases with socio-economic development, while the psychological value increases. Since the later is more a qualitative value than a quantitative one, it results is lower fertility.
