What is a 'village' in a nation of migrants

Journal of modern Greek studies6 (2) • Published In 1988 • Pages: 187-215

By: Sutton, Susan Buck.

Abstract
This essay, which emphasizes internal migration patterns within Greece, first establishes what is know about rural Greek demographic history over the last few centuries -- mid sixteenth century to the 1980s -- and then explores the implications of this account for understanding Greek village life. Sutton examines four areas in detail: the Achaia Nemea Valley, Amorgos, Kea, and the southern Argolid.
