Abstract
During the past two decades, the involvement of returning migrants in the patron saint's festival on the small Greek island of Nisos (a pseudonym), appears to have 'revitalized' the celebration and, to some extent, changed its nature. These changes stem in part from other changes taking place on the island, which now has greatly improved facilities and communications. Although the festival seems never to have been a purely local event attended only by residents, the presence of many migrants and non-local Greeks and foreigners in the eighties seems to have produced, in migrants at least, a concern with performance and appearance (p. 155).
