Abstract
This document addresses the role of kinship and family in the relatively isolated village community of Spartohori, located on the Island of Meganisi in Greece. The author notes that it was impossible to understand anything about the village without first understanding something about kinship. The values of kinship seemed to permeate alsmost every aspect of village life - from where one shopped to whom one voted for, from the forms of local economic cooperation, such as wine making and fishing, to the adventure of overseas migration (p. 115). Each of these aspects of kinship relations are explored in depth in this work.
