Abstract
This excerpt contains information on cultural changes in economy, employment, public health, participation in town life and involvement in politics, and shows how these changes may vary between hill and plains villages. The excerpt concludes with an analysis of Greek politics and government from its source in pre-World War II days to 1956, with a considerable amount of attention being paid to the effects of the Greek communist party and its attempt to take over control of the government by revolution in the period of 1947-1949. In this section the author shows the effects of the American Aid Mission to Greece in helping to modernize and remodel Greek governmental structure.
