Abstract
This source presents general information on the beliefs and practices of snake worship among the Nayar caste. It discusses the distribution of the "snake cult" in India, general beliefs about snakes that have brought about their deification, and the concomitant establishment of shrines, temples and sacred groves as places of worship. Ceremonies of worship are described, both on the community and household levels.
