Abstract
This study examines economic problems of households in Khanh, a village in the former South Vietnam. Data informing the study was gethered in 1958-1959 when Khanh was relatively unaffected by the war which later hampered the continuation of the study. Based on extensive data collected through interviews, household surveys and village census, the study shows that economic activities in Khanh were not shaped by politcal economic processes at the national-scale and beyond, as opposed to social relations within the community.
