The medallions of the dignitaries and mandarins at the court of Annam

Amis du Vieux Hué, Bulletin13 • Published In 1926 • Pages: 233-254

By: Sogny, L., Messner, Charles A..

Abstract
This article discusses the history and significance of mandarinal and other medallions at the court of Annam. Sogny feels that this is one Annamese institution that is not of Chinese origin and he cites Chinese texts to show that only the insignia and not the present medallions existed in ancient China. He includes descriptions of these medallions with dates of their creation or regulation as found in court decrees and other literature. A list of the mandarinal grades and other functionaries who have the right to wear medallions has been reproduced in Chinese characters and QUOC NGU.
