Abstract
Petit prepared this study as a doctoral thesis at the University of Paris. He covers the accession to the throne, the religious character of the Emperor and his function as chief of state. Information is also given concerning the Emperor's assistants, his court, family and funeral ceremonies. Many parallels are drawn with Chinese custom. The study includes a short history of the formation of the Annamese Empire, and there is detailed information about sovereigns' names, and on titles and privileges and their inheritance.
