Abstract
The subtitle of this book gives a succinct description of its subject matter. Hsingan province and the areas bordering it to the east are covered in great detail, league by league, tribe by tribe, and banner by banner. The role of the railroads in Chinese expansion into the Mongol area is discussed, as is their influence on the territorial organization of the state of Manchukuo. Manchuria's position in the foreign relations of China, Russia, and Japan is briefly described, and the effect of this position on the status of the Manchurian Mongols and Mongols generally, is considered. The subject of the book is well illustrated by three maps.
