The ceremonies of the Ch'uan Miao

Journal of the West China Border Research Society9 • Published In 1937 • Pages: 1-2, 71-119

By: Graham, David Crockett, Ts'ao-sung, Hsiung.

Abstract
The contents of this document are three essays written by natives who are not scientifically trained observers (two of these informants are farmers and the third, a MO priest). The first text is a description of some of the activities of the TUAN KUNG (curer or 'medicine man'); the other two are descriptions of the activities of the MO priests with special reference to mortuary practices and ancestor worship. The Miao described here are probably Szechwan Hua (Flowery) Miao; however, they may be White Miao. For further information on the Ch'uan Miao, see HRAF document numbers 8: Graham and 10: Graham.
