Abstract
This study examines gender and generational relations in 72 upper-middle-class urban families to identify changes in the Korean family. Kim has found an increase in nuclear families, women's work outside the household, Women's level of education, and egalitarian 'love' marriages, which she concludes have all favorably impacted on gender relations in the family. However patriarchy persists, because women's work still primarily serves the family.
