Abstract
This book describes and analyzes the economy and social structure of a South Korean peasant-fishermen village. In this village, with an economy on the subsistance level, cooperation and solidarity are somewhat more important than lineage-bound class loyalty. The authority of household elders is slowly diminishing with new the generation, this being particularly observable among the fishermen whose class status is somewhat lower than that of peasants.
