Physical basis for Korean boundaries

Abstract
In this summary description of Korean boundaries, McCune devotes himself to both the internal and external boundaries. The external (national) boundaries comprise the Yalu and Tumen rivers, the composite group of volcanoes known as Paektu-san, and the three seas which border the Korean peninsula. The most important internal boundaries covered by McCune are the provincial ones which are thirteen in number. Some consideration is given to boundaries for municipalities, counties, and towns.| Finally, McCune closes with an examination of the boundaries provided by the 38th parallel. He concludes that it was an arbitrary demarcation which has no topographical base whatsoever. He feels that since those now in existance are far from ideal, the future of boundaries in Korea depends on functioning rather physical character.| Two excellent maps of Korean provincial boundaries and a generalized cross-section along the 38th parallel are included in this summary and have been reproduced for the files.
