By: Heydrich, M..

Abstract
Heydrich, an ethnographer, became interested in Korea when he saw a collection of tools and implements from the island of Quelpart made by Walther Stotzner for the museum in Dresden. In making a study of these artifacts, he investigated the history and culture of Korean folk. This study, which concerns agriculture, is the first of a series of accounts of various phases of Korean life. Although Heydrich was not in Korea he utilized various sources and means in his study. One Mr. Han Fong Keng, a Korean, acted as an informant on the culture of his people, and gave Heydrich the Korean names used in this work. The historical information was gleaned from existing literature. Heydrich has gone far beyond an ethnographic account of agricultural implements from Quelpart to offer a study of agriculture as it developed and as it functions in Korea
