Abstract
This is a collection of traditional Hausa tales and customs, presented in the Hausa script, transliterated and translated by Rattray. Only those sections which contain the English translation are included here. The subjects included are Rattray's commentary on his work and the Hausa language, the table of Hausa alphabet writing signs, Hausa traditional history and their conversion to the Muslim religion, and customs related to marriage, birth, naming, circumcision and clitoridectomy, funerals, trading, casting of brass figures, and the tanning and dyeing of leather. Rattray was District Commissioner in Ashanti, West Africa, and spoke Hausa and other African languages.
