The pattern of Hera kinship

Oxford University Press (17) • Published In 1949 • Pages: vi, 58

By: Holleman, J. F..

Abstract
This is a detailed study of the kinship structure of the Hera subgroup who, at the time, lived in the central and southern portions of the Sabi Native Reserve, Mashonaland, Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). Although the primary emphasis is on kinship terminology and lineage structure, there is also a great deal of information on the clan, prohibited and preferred forms of marriage, general kinship obligations, and related patterns of behavior. The work concludes with an analysis of the elements of kinship found in the composition of a local political unit, the ward.
