Abstract
The aim of this monograph was to generate proposals for more efficient land usage in the Barotse Plain. The work presents extensive coverage of the nature of soils in all of Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia), while descriptions of actual native agricultural techniques is minimal. Peters evolved a set of classifications of garden type and surveyed the relative use of each type and the size of 'garden families' involved in each type. The author makes projections and proposals regarding future agricultural productivity.
