Abstract: This book is the outstanding source on Azande witchcraft, and also contains much general information on social organization. Magic, witchcraft and oracles are the predominating interests in the culture. Evans-Pritchard studied the relations of these beliefs and practices to one another to show that they form an ideational system and how this is reflected in social behavior. Evans-Pritchard made three expeditions to Zandeland, where in all he resided for twenty months.
