Abstract: In this article, Evans-Pritchard analyzes mainly two types of Azande warfare: (1) fairly large-scale campaigns between kingdoms, and (2) the smaller-scale raids between provinces of adjacent kingdoms. Civil wars between kingdoms are not dealt with, and wars with the Europeans and Arabs are discussed only briefly. The following dimensions of warfare are considered: its objectives and motivations, military organization, mobilization of war resources, logistics, strategies and tactics, battle organization and deployment of forces, defensive and offensive engagements, weaponry and its uses, and so forth.
