Abstract
This is an ecological study of Serengeti-Mara plains region and its surroundings in Kenya and Tanganyika; or, the study of western Maasailand by which Maasai territory west of the Great Rift Valley is understood. This division of Maasai should be noted as geographical, only. The grassland ecosystem with its wild fauna and the Maasai with their pastoral practices of over grazing and grass burning as principal components of the ecosystem are given detailed analysis in this doctoral thesis.
