The integration of the new economic classes into local government in western Nigeria

Abstract
According to the author, the new economic classes among the Yoruba are the wealthy farmers and traders, craftsmen, and literate youths who are being employed as government clerks and school teachers. Their integration into the traditional tribal system of town government through appointment or election to the local Native Authority Councils is the subject of this brief article. The author is a specialist on the traditional Yoruba system of government and is attached to the West African Institute of Social and Economic Research.
