Abstract
This study of Fanti customary law is the result of careful research through the judicial archives of the Supreme Court of the Gold Coast Colony. Descriptions of native customs relating to family, marriage, divorce, property, land tenure, suretyship, loans mortgages, sales, and inheritance are supplemented by abstracts of actual court cases. There is also information on political system and slavery. Included in the appendices are Royal Charters, Orders in Council, and Treaties which provided the legal framework for the British Occupation of the Gold Coast. Sarbah was a practicing lawyer before the Supreme Court of the colony.
