Abstract
This article discusses problems encountered in resettling the Nambiquara people. The focus is on two involuntary resettlement schemes implemented under the auspices of the Brazillian government and with technical support by missionaries and international aid organizations. The article shows that both programs failed for several reasons including culturally grounded inter-group conflict over land tenure, and incongruities between project goals and needs of resettling Namiquara families.
