Abstract
This source is a study in Hopi cultural ecology. The author's aim is to examine the impact of changes in the Hopi natural and social environment on Hopi land use and settlement patterns. To this end he discusses the world view, social organization and economy of the aboriginal Hopi, environmental change and the contact history of the Hopi, Hopi responses to environmental change and culture contacts and, in particular, how these responses are reflected in land use and settlement patterns. The author also proposes to use the Hopi example to gain some insight into the problems of development facing the underdeveloped nations of the world, but to this end he provides little discussion.
