By: Voth, Henry R..

Abstract
This source is an extremely detailed day-by-day description of the Oáqöl ceremony, its participants and ritual, in which young girls are initiated into the Oáqöl Society, one of the three “women’s fraternities” in Oráibi. It also contains small amounts of information on clan-kiva society relationships, basket making, and male and female roles. According to 7: Talayesva, Voth was hated by the Hopi and he regularly forced his way into their secret ceremonies. Talayesva however does not dispute the accuracy of his description.
