Abstract
This article is a concise summary of Winnebago (Ho-Chunk) culture history from the early European contact period around 1620 to 1978. Lurie discuses the fur trade period, treaties and land cessions between the United States government and the Winnebago, the Nebraska and Wisconsin Winnebago as two separate entities of the tribe, and post-World War II enonomic conditions for the people as a whole.
