Abstract
In this document Weaver discusses the history and establishment of the Six Nations Reserve, Grand River, Ontario, Canada, following the American Revolution. Pre-reservation settlements are described during the late eighteenth through mid nineteenth centuries, followed by the actual establishment of the reserve itself in 1847. The author then provides detailed information on the reservation community, including data on relationships with the Canadian government, the reservation council and its leadership (i.e., 'chiefs'), political activist groups, the economy, and changes that have taken place in the post World War II era (1945-1970s).
