Abstract
This article is about how the identity of a small, western County Donegal town is centered on seasonal salmon fishing. Although it only provides a supplementary income, salmon fishing has an important role in affirming communal and community ties. Fishing takes on the aspect of a spectator sport as villagers on land watch the different boats compete for fish in the bay. The onlookers provide commentary over the day's events, making sure rules and fair play are followed.
