Abstract
This source is an attempt to trace the history of the political-religious schism in Javanese society usually signified by such terms as santri vs. abangan or orthodox vs. syncretist. The author discusses political history in general and in particular in the kalurahans of Kebonsari and Tamansari. This source helps immensely to clarify a fundamental aspect of Javanese life.
