Abstract
This source is the work of a missionary doctor who spent eight years among the Bhaca and Khuze tribes of the Zulu nation. The text is arranged to give a simultaneous account of most of the material by both the author and the native informants. The latter passages are rendered in both Zulu and English. Material is presented on puberty rites, adolescent relationships between the sexes, courting and betrothal customs, marriage ceremonies, behavior of newly married women, and practices at the time of the first birth. Information is most detailed on females, with particular attention being given to hair dressing, taboos and restrictions.
