Sudan notes and record16 (1) • Published In 1933 • Pages: 1-53

By: Evans-Pritchard, E. E. (Edward Evan).

Abstract
In this article, Evans-Pritchard describes the social and political organization of the Nuer. In particular, the relationship between lineage organization, on the one hand, and tribal and sub-tribal organization on the other, is explored. Similarly, the relationship between lineage organization and community structure is examined. The confusion in social terminology resulting from these relationships is explained in detail. Five maps illustrate the location and migratory movements of the Nuer and their various tribes and segments.
