Abstract
This article focuses on the theory and methodology of Marcel Griaule, one of the principal ethnographers of the Dogon. In particular, the author examines and critiques Griaule’s idea and practice of ethnography as “documentary” and “initiation.” This source also provides information on Griaule’s intellectual development and professional life.
