Abstract: In this source Lantis compiles and summarizes all the Kodiak myths and tales that she has been able to find. The tales were collected by Lisianky, Holmberg, Pinart, and Golder in the 19th century. She analyzes the stories for motifs and compares these with similar elements from Northwest Coast and Eskimo folklore. She concludes that Kodiak myths share elements with both the Northwest Coast and other Eskimo groups. A table on pages 129-130 is useful for reference as to Lantis' classification of the tales and organization of the paper. Bibliographic footnotes appear at the bottom of the pages, but the complete bibliographic references will be found on pages 170-172.
